Our process is collaborative. We thrive on the combination of our client’s ideas-dreams-visions with our expertise and experience. The result is stunning and personalized, an ideal blend for happy clients. We are committed to unsurpassed quality and to that end use only the best materials. We use certified organic German linseed oil on all our solid wood pieces. The oil is ideal for livability and longevity; it only gets better over time. The oil finish ensures that you feel the natural wood surface and in the event that one of our pieces needs to be repaired, it in fact can be without refinishing it entirely. Sustainability is also important to us and is another reason we choose an organic oil finish and solid wood materials. These natural products are safe for us to work with, for our clients to live with and for the environment they are meant to be placed in.
Things to consider before working with us to create your vision:
- Budget – It is very important to have this piece of information in mind, as well as discussed. This allows us to direct design and material choices to ensure the client gets the best possible outcome.
- Design and Needs – Consider the functionality and location, how will it be used, who will be using it, etc. Are there specific characteristics, live-edge, wood species, knots or clean grain structure, color, mixed-material, etc. Example photos always help.
- Time Frame – It goes without saying that the more complex the project the longer it takes. Most custom projects take a minimum of 8-12 weeks.
SchullerWood is a fine furniture company, founded in Fort Collins Colorado in 2010. However, our roots come from decades in the design and build world. A family business made up of the husband and wife team of Uwe and Heather Schuller, we are committed to bringing unique design, lasting quality, and intelligent manufacturing choices to every project. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, using a variety of exceptional materials based on the needs of the client and the demands of the design. Uwe Schuller is a German Schreiner (wood furniture joiner) trained at the Möbelmacher in Kirchensittenbach, Germany with 25 years of experience working all over Europe. In addition to his formal training, Uwe’s “tool bag” includes stacked log and timber frame home building, trade show display stands, all levels of carpentry, event construction (theater, concerts, TV and movie stage sets) and a thorough, hands-on exposure to sustainable construction techniques and materials.
Heather Schuller is a Colorado native who has worn many hats in her professional life; geologist, high school science teacher, landscape designer, project manager and creative diva. Smart, simple design and a “do it right one time” attitude are near and dear to her heart.
SchullerWood was created to combine exceptional German quality with the endless possibilities of a Colorado lifestyle. This dynamic pairing blends the best of Bavarian culture with the vitality of the Rocky Mountains and ensures a truly personalized piece of furniture.
A Schreiner or a Tischler is a profession unto itself and is difficult to directly translate. It comes from the ancient profession of joining wood and has evolved over the centuries to include the complex task of understanding wood; how to take it apart and successfully put it back together in a lasting and useful form. This dynamic material has many considerations that are constantly changing. A Schreiner must consider wood’s static/dynamic properties, the hygroscopic properties, as well as the grain structure, appearance, and direction. Structural capabilities and necessary dimensions also must be considered. In addition, a modern Schreiner is also educated in electrical and plumbing trades, architectural and industrial design, integration of modern amenities (appliances, stereo equipment, lighting, heating, water/fire features), the use of sustainable materials, the environment where all these elements will be placed and who will be using them.
The extensive knowledge required for this profession is why it takes 3-4 years of classroom and experiential learning in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to earn the title of Schreiner.
The true expertise of these highly trained craftsmen is in the ability to consider all the moving parts, the needs of the client, the best design and manufacturing practices, the budget and time frame AND deliver exceptional quality.
